We\u2019ve had the pleasure of working with Thor for over two years as a student assistant, and now we are excited to see him continue his journey at KI \u2013 this time as a full-time project engineer!<\/p>\n\n
Thor already knows how we work at KI \u2013 he understands that we don\u2019t go for the easy solutions, but for the best solutions. Now, he is taking the next big step by heading straight to the construction sites in Reykjavik. Here, he will provide engineering support for projects including the 17-story Radisson Red hotel, a complex modular structure, and an adjacent residential building. <\/p>\n\n
\u201cI hope to reach the high technical level my colleagues at KI have, and I believe that \u2018learning by doing\u2019 is the right way to start.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
Thor is Icelandic himself and is familiar with the working methods in Iceland. During his bachelor’s studies, Thor worked at Verk\u00eds, where he contributed to a project constructing protective barriers to control lava flow during the Geldingadalur eruption. This experience gave him insight into Icelandic engineering practices in challenging conditions. <\/p>\n\n
From the very beginning, Thor has been a great fit at KI, where we value high technical expertise, curiosity, and the ability to think creatively. He also demonstrated this in his master\u2019s project at DTU, where he researched sustainable methods for dismantling precast concrete buildings. His work explored how hydrodemolition and weak mortar joints could enable a more efficient and safe disassembly of prefabricated concrete elements, making reuse possible instead of turning them into waste. <\/p>\n\n
At KI, sustainability and resource awareness are priorities, and it\u2019s inspiring to see young engineers like Thor bring new perspectives and concrete solutions to the table.<\/p>\n\n
