Helping seniors help themselves
Solgaven senior housing in Valby in the western part of Copenhagen is built with the goal of helping the blind and visually impaired live and easier and less constricted life. The complex consists of 26 senior apartments and 93 nursing home spots.
Solgaven houses both fitness, wellness, hairdresser and dentist facilities. The building complex will be an all-encompassing living facility for the older citizens of Copenhagen, creating a living area in which the residents can help themselves and live more freely. Solgaven has outdoor gardens with different smells, and the overall idea was to create an experience for all senses both outdoor and indoor. All walls are equipped with hand rails for the seniors to use for navigation, and the layout is planned in a way that eliminates confusing dead-ends and nooks.
A unique and thoughtful project, tailored to its users' needs and capabilities. The vision of the project was to create Europe's best nursing home.
