Old suspension bridge over Iceland's largest river
Ölfusá is Iceland's largest river. The purpose of the project was to develop a robust and simple monitoring system for health monitoring of the old suspension bridge crossing the river. For the purpose, a bi-axial accelerometer was developed and installed on the bridge for a continuous evaluation of the natural frequency of the bridge’s back-stay, through back-calculation of the measured natural frequency.
The distribution of the cable force between the two cable plans is a simple, yet efficient measure of the condition of the bridge.
KI was in charge of determination of natural frequencies and cable force on the Ölfusá road bridge.
