New life for old buildings on Søndergade in Aarhus
KI Consulting Engineers has proudly been part of the renewal of several historic buildings on Søndergade in Aarhus. These buildings, which include Søndergade 5, 7, 9 and Søndergade 11, have undergone an extensive transformation, where old structures have been partially demolished and renewed with modern additions. The result is a unique combination of old and new, where the original facade facing the pedestrian street has been preserved, and the new buildings now house a mix of offices, shops and homes.
KI was employed by Thomas Praefab as section designer for concrete elements, including walls and columns. One of the most innovative aspects of this project was the use of the program OPTUM CS for the calculation of multiple self-supporting walls. OPTUM CS is a ground-breaking concrete software, developed by our sister company Optum CE, which makes it possible to optimize the design of the concrete elements with a view to significantly reducing material consumption and working hours.
At KI Consulting Engineers, we are constantly looking for professional challenges, regardless of whether they are found in innovative and complex prestigious projects or in innovative solutions for smaller projects. For us, 'business as usual' is never good enough. We always strive to optimize processes and create smarter solutions that challenge the industry's traditional thinking. This work takes place both internally at KI and in close collaboration with our sister companies, Optum CS and KI Monitoring. Together we have developed new software which has the potential to revolutionize the building industry by significantly reducing resource consumption and working hours.
This project on Søndergade is a brilliant example of how tradition and innovation can be combined, and we are proud to have contributed to creating modern solutions while respecting the city's historical heritage.
Thanks to Thomas Praefab and E+N Arkitektur for good cooperation.
