KI’s Specialized Role: Design and Reinforcement of the Roof Structure
KI Rådgivende Ingeniører served as section designers for the building's highly unique roof structure, supported by profiles constructed from cold-formed thin-walled steel.
"Working with thin-walled steel requires a high level of precision and expertise. The material offers significant geometric freedom, but it is also more complex to calculate," explains project manager Mikki Goltermann Graffmann.
He emphasizes that KI’s approach has always been driven by creating solutions of the highest quality and functionality. Using advanced Finite Element analyses, KI developed a comprehensive static model that accounted for the roof’s complex geometry and the material’s unique characteristics, including material and geometric nonlinearities. The task involved verifying an already installed roof structure where possible and designing reinforcements where required. KI’s expertise in both structural design and material analysis was crucial in addressing the unique challenges posed by the project.
A neighboring project with the same ambitions
Parallel with the main construction of the Johannes Fog flagship store, KI has also worked on an adjacent project – the construction of a new parking house, which was also designed by KI's engineering team.
As a structural designer, KI ensured that the car park lives up to the same high standards for quality and functionality that characterize our other work. Read more about this project here: Parking house at Fog, Lyngby.
