Welcome to Rasmus, our new timber structure expert

Sandra MyrtueNews

We are pleased to welcome Rasmus Palm Vestergaard as a new colleague in Aarhus – and as our new Tekla and timber structure expert.

Rasmus describes himself as a nerd – in the very best way. Tekla nerd, climate nerd, timber nerd… and whiskey nerd. When he saw that KI had opened an office in his hometown of Aarhus, and that we – according to him – are also “a collection of nerds with a nerdy management”, he had no doubt: This is where I belong.

Rasmus brings with him many years of experience from both Ramboll and MOE/Artelia – first as a structural engineer with a focus on steel and BIM, then as competence manager at Tekla and head of timber management. It is especially the work with the choice of materials and climate impact that drives him:

“I found out that as structural engineers, we have an impact and influence of up to 2,000 tons of CO₂E per year through the materials we choose. If we make the right choices, the potential is huge. It motivated me to shift focus and work purposefully with wooden structures and a better and more optimising design process.”

At KI, Rasmus will have the opportunity to do just that: to bring his technical knowledge into play from day one – both as part of our strong Tekla and FEM environment, and in the development of new timber projects. He will be a key player in the development of the Aarhus office:

“I look forward to helping shape the department together with Jesper Bechmann Olsen. The dream is that we will be the ones everyone goes to when they want to build in timber – although of course we as engineers can build in anything.”

Rasmus is also a member of IDA’s steering committee for timber structures, where he works to spread knowledge about timber in the Danish engineering profession.

And when he’s not geeking out with connections, software and CO₂ accounting, he may be turning his gaze west – to Stauning Whisky, which he has helped start and build together with eight friends. A project where curiosity, technical ingenuity and uncompromising dedication have been the driving force all the way from the first litres to a modern distillery with its own architecture and production.

Welcome to the team, Rasmus – we are looking forward to the nerdiness.
