The award was given for the following reasons:
Landgangen in Esbjerg has been awarded a prize from Esbjerg Byfond (City foundation) for its elegant connection between city and harbor.
The vision of the project has been to restore the mental and physical interconnection between the very vibrant Esbjerg City and Esbjerg Harbor. At the same time, it has been the vision to create an attractive promenade along Havnegade. Landgangen is based on a single concept, “a branch” over the entire area that breaks and bends in an unpredictable structure of places, stairways and points of view.
The expression of the bridge is minimalist, understated and implemented with great consistency. Overall, the connection is very generous and yet with a relaxed gesture.
The establishment of Landgangen was part of the reason why Esbjerg Kommune in 2018 received the city planning prize.
